We live in Vancouver, BC, and just discovered this winter that some hummingbirds stay here through the winter. On the colder days recently, we’ve been taking the feeder into the house every hour or so to thaw the sugar mix in our microwave.

Friends of mine keep saying it’s odd to see hummingbirds in winter time, and yet I keep seeing them; I suspect they’re more year-round than people think.

i was surprised, too.
your mistakes are your style
We have seen a few or many visits by the same ones: being in a temperate locale, we have overwintering hummingbirds and I guess the extremes have made the feeders more popular. I wish I had a feeder closer to the house for reasons like this.
