My roommate heard what sounded like three gunshots go off outside. He poked his head out the window but saw nothing. Five minutes later, still unnerved, he took another look and saw several neighbors in the street staring at something down the block. A few more looked on, stunned, from their windows and fire escapes, craning their heads for a better view. He couldn’t see what they could see from our side so he went out. This was in the middle of the day.

So this is what he saw: this Ford Explorer on fire — flames overflowing from the interior, black smoke billowing into the sky. The fire department arrived shortly after. I got these shots of the charred Explorer that night. Pretty fuckin’ nuts. I’m sorry I missed it.
