a place to settle the soul.

a place to settle the soul.

I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.” ~John Muir

Scenes like these tend to make me catch my breath and trip over my own feet in wonderment. I am far more satisfied - sometimes, actually, a bit awed - when I am able to capture this kind of scene as opposed to that of a flashy sunset or sunrise. Such a place as this - Ecola State Park - has a life and heart of its own. It seems less a landscape, and more an intimate portrait of a place.

Taken with my Hasselblad 500 C/M.

That is because it is a portrait of a place, as the best landscape photos generally are. Catching flashy sunsets is as easy as being there, but catching the heart and soul of a place requires much much more of the photographer.

(It definitely helped to darken up that corner)

This is a thousand shots I’ve tried to get and never could. I always think of the forest moon of Endor when I go here. So lush and green. This shot is amazing.
