I got to spend a dinner, okay half a dinner, well, alright more like a quarter of a dinner talking to Merlin Mann, mostly his android phone, but whatever, I’d wanted to meet him for years. He and John Gruber’s talk was my favorite at SXSWi this year, and getting to spend some time really talking to him in person probably made the trip for me. He’s all over the place and a massive personality that at times is overwhelming, but he’s a great guy and his post pretty much sums up my feelings about SXSWi this year.
For those of you who missed it last year, a few of us are getting together at Katzs Deli for the 2nd annual Polaroid Breakfast. Last year I wasn’t able to make it do to an airport security snafu but this year, unless the weather or security have it out for me again, I plan to be there.
We’ll be talking about all things Polaroid, from the recently announced The Impossible Project to what filters you might be using or where you’ve still been able to find some film. It should be a good times had by all, but mostly it’s just a chance to get together and meet up with other instant film fans.
You don’t need a camera, just an interest and a working alarm clock to get there by 9:00 a.m.
The details:
I don’t have any reservations as it’s meant to just be a small gathering, but there’s been a lot more interest over the past year, so if you could just RSVP in the comments below in case I end up needing to give them a heads up.
I got to be heavily involved with Blue Flavor in the site/navigation structure for the new SXSW.com, and I’m really stoked with how it came out. Well done Shawn and Hugh with getting it all implemented so quickly. Looking forward to seeing more of our suggestions implemented.

Apparently Greg and company are having a 5 day Xbox tournaments instead. Still great tips for navigating SXSW Interactive.
It’s been a good week and a half since I got back from South By Southwest and I’m just now feeling like I can talk about it a little. It was that intense. It’s a marathon and a sprint. Maybe it was because it was my first year, but even when I tried to pace myself I felt like I was doing too much. You’re meeting people constantly wanting to give them your full attention, to have that meaningful conversation, but then you’re off to a panel, or somebody needs to talk to you about something else, or your at a party and there’s another party you just have to get to.
It’s grueling, inspiring, and totally fun all rolled into one. I met some incredible people, had some great conversations and heard some panels that inspired me. Sure there were a few low points, I saw some panels that weren’t the best, but overall it was a great conference. To add to the many voices SXSW comes highly recommended.
I’m glad to be back and if I didn’t meet you this year I hope to see you again next year.
Tomorrow morning I’m getting on a plane, along with countless other web geeks, to make the annual pilgrimage to SXSW interactive. This is going to be my first year and I’m stoked. I’ve travelled plenty but never been to Austin let alone to the geek spring break that is SXSW. I’ve heard tons from the Blue Flavor crew about what to expect, how the panels work, and what the parties are like, but really after all the stories I’m trying to clear my head and take it all in with a clean slate.
Hope to see a few of you down there, and I’m sure I’ll have a few tales when it’s all over with.
I guess since I didn’t get to go this will have to do.
